Same as the earlier editions,
TIFF 2006 will be held in Cluj-Napoca between June 2-11 and promises to
offer the Cluj festival public a rich variety of movies - over 100 titles
of short and feature films, premieres recently awarded in most prestigious
international film festivals, events and creative workshops, as well as
to bring celebrities of the movie world in Cluj during the ten days of
the Festival. So far, among the big titles of the Festival are "Capote",
the fresh winner of the 2006 Golden Globes in the Best Actor in Drama
category for actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Me and You and Everyone
We Know", awarded with Camera D'Or in the 2005 Festival in Cannes,
as well as the surprise movie of the 2005 Venice Film Festival - "Takeshis",
of the Japanese director Takeshi Kitano.
One of the special events of TIFF 2006
is the screening of "All the Invisible Children" (Venice 2005),
produced by Italian actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta. It is is a UNICEF
project that comprises several short films directed by important directors
such as Emir Kusturica, Spike Lee, Ridley Scott, John Woo as well as others.
This year it is a Romanian director's turn to delight the public with
his first feature film. "A fost sau n-a fost?", directed by
Corneliu Porumboiu will be presented in the opening evening of TIFF 2006.
It is a story about the Romanian Revolution of December 1989, and the
title question, "Was it or not?", applies to a small provincial
town with no specific name. Corneliu Porumboiu's film will have its Romanian
premiere in Cluj in the evening of June the 2nd.
Started in a Romanian key, TIFF 2006 will close in the rhythms and sound
of the world famous Fanfara Ciocarlia from the Sase Prajini village. "The
Devils of Speed" or "the fastest brass band in the world",
as they are nicknamed by their fans, have turned the brass playing into
art, have had concerts in 150 countries and have been the subject of a
documentary - Iag Bari - Brass of Fire - winner of several important awards
for documentary. Fanfara Ciocarlia will close TIFF 2006 with an explosive
open air concert on the 10th of June, in the center of Cluj.

Another novelty of the Transilvania International Film Festival 5th edition
is the opening of a Meeting Point with personality. For the 10 days of
the Festival the open terrace of the Art Museum in Cluj will be the place
where directors, actors and film celebrities will have the opportunity
to have a coffee and share thoughts, ideas and impressions side by side
with the movie lovers attending the Festival. The Meeting Point in Cluj
will be an event in itself, having its own competition - "You've
Got Personality, Show It at TIFF!" - organized by the National Authority
for Youth (ANT), Romanian Film Promotion Association (APFR), the main
organizer of TIFF, and YAP Romania. It invites 15 young people interested
in painting, graphics and photography to exhibit their work while other
25 young members of theatre groups will be able to present their productions
on a scene built on this purpose in the Museum yard. Also, other 10 young
talented people who love music will be able to prove their musical talent
in a contest; while also, on an open air screen the public will have the
opportunity to watch movies signed by young Romanian directors.
